USE OF 3D MODELS IN TEACHING ENGINEERING GRAPHICS AND DESIGN

All the tasks in the latest textbooks are now available as 3D models. They are presented in an easy to use program (AUTODESK – DESIGN REVIEW).

In Design Review the teacher or learner is able to switch features on and off to show the internal content, or make the feature transparent, allowing the learner to ‘see through’ surfaces and thereby developing a better understanding as to the relationship between the various features, cutting planes and the concept of projection as shown in the example below (GR. 12 CIVIL TASK 12).

In design review the objects, which are presented in 3D, are able to be rotated so the ‘viewer’ can view the objects from any direction as shown in the example below. (GR. 12 MECHANICAL ASSEMBLY TASK 6)

Mechanical assembly drawings are also presented in an ‘AVI’ format which allows the learner the witness the various 3D components moving into position to form the assembly.
