THE CIRCLES OF EMPOWERMENT FOR SCHOOLS
Research indicates that there are six core areas of competencies that contribute to the proficiency of educators as a team to ensure that a high level of learning is achieved within their own school environment. These core areas include:
- Academic qualifications
- Teaching experience
- Classroom skills
- Self-awareness proficiency
- Effective communication skills
- Leadership competencies
Whilst Principals and Deputy Principals might have these skills in abundance and play a vital role in the leadership of their schools, their ultimate success can be limited by their ability to harness and focus the strengths of their leadership team to extend their own vision.
“The basic building block of good communications is the feeling that every human being is unique and of value.” Anon

Shandre Otto, Deputy Principal – Norman Henshilwood High School
My staff recently completed the Circles of Empowerment training programme as ‘me/us’ time. We certainly were not disappointed – the interactive workshop kept us fully involved as we learnt more about ourselves as individuals and how this affects our functioning as a team.
